Artwork Details:
The place where a river enters a lake, larger river, or the ocean is called its mouth. As a river flows, it picks up sediment. The river mouth is where much of this sediment (called alluvium) is deposited. When a large amount of alluvium is deposited at the mouth of a river, a delta is formed. This transition zone is a valued habitat for many species of fish and birds. This collage is of the mouth of a river entering the ocean where two people are walking the beach at sunset. This is the August image found in my 2025 wall calendar. Although it works as a stand-alone image, each design in this collection was created to tell part of a story of how the water on our planet connects us all. This piece incorporates phrase, “where the river meets the sea.”
