Blank Greeting Card - September Bear Grass - Mixed Media Collage

Artwork Details:
This piece is entitled "Bear Grass" in tribute to two misunderstood Oregon natives - the black bear (Ursus americanus) and bear grass (Xerophyllum tenax). Many are afraid of the elusive American Black Bear, a native to North America. Though they live in the forests near our home, I've only seen one in 15 years. While it may be a surprise to some, black bears are omnivores whose diet is comprised mainly of nuts, berries, grasses, and insects. They are not typically active predators. And bear grass is not actually a grass. In the lily family, it is sometimes confused for its deadly relative, deathcamas. Both of these local species get a bad rap, but they are important members of our local ecosystem.
