Artwork Details:
The continuous cycle of water movement created by a waterfall serves a crucial purpose: aeration. Aeration from waterfalls increases oxygen levels in the water, which is essential for the well-being of aquatic life. Waterfalls also create microclimates of cool, moist air that nurture a diverse array of flora and fauna. This collage depicts a yellow-bellied newt enjoying the moist environment behind a waterfall. This is the May image found in my 2025 wall calendar. Although it works as a stand-alone image, each design in this collection was created to tell part of a story of how the water on our planet connects us all. This piece incorporates the Mikhail Lermontov quote, “Many a calm river begins as a turbulent waterfall, yet none hurtles and foams all the way to the sea.”
