Woodpecker

Woodpecker

Tap! Tap! Tap! Tap!  Oh hello!  It’s the Hairy Woodpecker!  This small but powerful bird forages along trunks and main branches of large trees in search of wood-boring insects.  Its’s relationship that benefits the forest and the woodpeckers.  Win! Win!  This mixed media collage depicts the hairy woodpecker doing what it does best – clinging to a tree trunk and finding a meal.  It is the May image found in my 2023 wall calendar.  Although it works as a stand-alone image, each design in this collection was created to tell part of a story of connection by following a yellow stone as it is touched by the flora and fauna of Yellowstone National Park. Each image also includes a Native American word for this animal.
