Childhood Magic

Childhood Magic
We are of this Earth as much as the elk and the balsam root. We often forget this fact as adults, but children know it well. This mixed media collage depicts a child throwing the yellow stone towards a stream. She has wild hair blowing in the wind with a woodpecker feather tucked behind her ear and sheet music in her shirt. It is the June image found in my 2023 wall calendar. Although it works as a stand-alone image, each design in this collection was created to tell part of a story of connection by following a yellow stone as it is touched by the flora and fauna of Yellowstone National Park. This image also includes a Shoshone word for girl. The words “I love the Earth and the Earth loves me back” are incorporated into her shirt.
