Bee Bloom

Bee Bloom

This mixed media collage is part of a honeybee collection completed in 2023 inspired of my latest hobby – beekeeping! Honeybees are fascinating creatures with a complex social structure from which we could learn a lot.  The greatest economic impact of honeybees is through pollination. Production of about one third of the human diet requires insect pollination, and honeybees perform the majority of pollination for these cultivated crops. And, as the landmark 2019 report from the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services notes, “Sacred passages about bees in all the worlds’ major religions highlight their significance to human societies over millennia.” As Tolstoy says in the quote incorporated in this piece, “One can no more approach people without love than one can approach bees without care.  Such is the nature of bees.”
